January 30, 2009 Another Five Minutes

I can see that I am going to have to come up with some way of naming these posts.

I am still thinking about what this is for.

Right at the minute I am reading "The Creative Habit" by Twyla Tharp. There's a lot in there about rituals and processes, really about making space in your mind and your day to be creative. One of the things that Twyla Tharp talks about is her box.

When Ms Tharp is starting a new project she unfolds a banker's box and puts things into it that represent the project - scraps of paper with the germ of an idea, books that inspire or encapsulate the concept, and so on.

These posts are not like Twyla's box. I am hoping that things I write about here might start to trigger me into writing later, but this space is not about working through ideas so much as encouraging myself to think about the process of making ideas.

That sentence makes no sense. I suspect this will be a common theme.

But that's five minutes.

so I've thought about the daily write thing and I just can't convince myself to do it. Anyway picking a good title takes time but shouldn't fit in to your five minutes nor extend it greatly so it should be something easy and methodical - I'm thinking the title of the post should be written afterwards and come directly from the post - with the first title-ish thing that comes up top down. So like this post for me would be "Rituals and Processes". But "The Create Habit" would do fine. As would "What this is for"
