November 30, 2008 Bombed

Word Count: 45,292

Things have not been going well with the writing.

The basic problem is that I have lost a lot of time to job stuff - several days just vanished after I lost my job, then a lot of time was soaked up in job search activities (of which more later). That was capped off with the Thanksgiving holiday which we spent away and which killed a good three days all on its own. I have been struggling to keep even close to pace.

And so today I stand almost 5,000 words shy of the finish line, with only thriteen hours to write in before the day ends. This is the furthest behind I have ever been in this event. It's still doable of course, but it is a lot less easy than I am used to.

I should still do it, but this has been a significantly more difficult November than I expected. If I had not lost my job halfway through the month I probably would have had no problems, but that really bombed out the guts of the month, as noted in my last post.

I wrote before about having to choose how to finish the month - whether to work on finishing the story arc or the word goal. At this point, I have gained a good deal of momentum on one chapter which was going to be a minor diversion but has turned into a major chunk of the book. I am going to carry on with that since it is flowing well rather than fighting with a different section of the story which would be much harder to write quickly. I will then finish off the story in the early part of December (especially the second week, for reasons that will become clear).

One last effort, and then I can call the goal reached and claim my win.
