I used to have a lava lamp when I lived in Britain. It was fun. I was sad to leave it behind, but I didn't know the best way of converting it to US voltage so it stayed where it was.

However, I have been thinking about getting a lava lamp for my desk at work for a long time. I thought it would add a strangely eerie feel to my desk, as well as something to stare vacantly at while thinking what word comes next.

Well, this last weekend I finally got around to buying a lava lamp. It was at a neighbour's garage sale, and it cost me $5. It is not the ideal colour for me (orange wax and purple water is my preference) but hey - it was $5. That's a good $10 less than what I have seen on the internet, and no postage.

It makes me smile, watching this thing blopping and convolving away.
