Eccentric Cubicle is what I would describe as a workshop manual for the improvisational inventor. I describe it in my LibraryThing review as being like an adult version of the Dangerous Book for Boys, because it really is that much fun to read!
There are things in this book that I wish I had known twenty years ago or even just a few months ago - how to make clamps from bicycle quick release levers, a drill press lathe, even how to make devices powered by the ubiquitous USB cable. It's just an excellent book for workshop techniques and ways of thinking.
The projects are there for entertainment value than practical manufacturability. I for one do not envision making the guillotine or the crossbow with a toddler in the house.
But this book inspires me in so many ways - tools to buy, workshop techniques to try, even places to visit: I have never visited a scrap yard and this book makes them seem quite enticing.
Highly recommended.
