December 31, 2005 Happy Old Year

It must be obvious that I have not been blogging much lately. This extends to reading other people's blogs as well as adding to my own, but my online time has been drastically reduced over the last couple of months. My energies have just been directed elsewhere.

It's been a good year, though.

Writing - my first novel, "The Vampire Hunter", has been renamed and is still being edited. I was making good progress on it but ran into the sand in about May because I was worn out from other things. My second novel, "The Flame Crown of Kissiltur", is currently sitting in a drawer waiting for me to read it next weekend. The writing of this second novel has given me lots of ideas to feed back into last year's piece, so I'll be back to working on that again regularly. Then I shall get down to reworking Flame Crown, which i realised about half way through is actually a trilogy.

Family - our little boy Russell is a joy. Getting ready for him to arrive was exhausting (and is one of the "other things" that halted my edit on TVH earlier this year), but he's such a happy baby. We love him to bits. I was very lucky to be able to spend so much time with him and Jen after he was born.

Running - recovering from injury, mostly. Cycling has helped. I won't be doing any big runs in 2006. There's a little more to write on this.

Working - I started the year with a job, and I end the year with a job. They're not the same job of course, but the timing of the redundancy could not have been better from a family point of view: not many new fathers get to spend over three months with their new family. But that came to an end in November when I started work in a contract position at Intel. It was alright, but the commute was a bugger. I had accepted that job and then a day later I had a tickle from a startup company, which after a short interview process made me an offer. So I had been at Intel not quite two weeks when I handed my notice in.

I started at the new company just four weks ago. It's great. Enthusiastic people, neat technology, and good prospects for the company to survive. Even the interviews were fun. Hurrah!

Here's to another successful year in 2006.
