Why Should I Listen To You?
Fragmented observations of a fractured lifestyle.
October 10, 2005 Slacking

I seem to have been astonishingly busy for someone with no job.

The bottom line is that I just haven't felt much like doing any writing at all this last month. Indeed, the most I've written the last few weeks has been a back story for a new role playing character.

What's been going on then?

Jobs - I've been looking for work, mostly by trawling through job boards. The Oregon Department of Employment has a pretty decent board, and there's also been craigslist and Dice. There are others out there, but I've had a few leads just off these so I am leary of heaping too much on my plate all at once.

Russell - our little boy is growing up so fast... he is twelve weeks old today, and with his hair coming in is beginning to look like a little boy rather than a baby. He enjoys being sung to and watching his mobile go round and round and round. He also likes spending time with his grandmothers.

Sick - I've had an awful sore throat over the weekend. It knocked me flat. Now my sleep patterns are all out of whack, which is why I'm posting to my blog at three in the morning.

Buyouts - a trivial piece of news really, but it seems that my first employer is going under at last. GPT has been trading as Marconi for a while, but has still suffered from the same utter dependence on BT which drove a knife into its heart while I was working for the company. That and developing products that nobody actually wanted. Anyway, it looks like former arch-rival Ericsson are going to buy the company. I honestly cannot imagine why.

Reading - I'm still churning through the Potter books with Russell (nearly finished #3), but my reading list is lagging again. I've finished Potter #6 and much enjoyed it, I've read Eragon and Eldest (the first two parts of another fantasy trilogy) and I was also rather startled to find that The System of the World was out in paperback only three months after The Confusion.

Well, that's the short version. I shall write more later today.
