William Gibson

It's taken me an inordinately long time to start reading this, long after the point where other devotees of the book have stopped talking about it, but I've finally picked it up and it is lovely.

I'm about sixty pages in so far and am struck by several things: how very non-SF it is, how similar the main character's name is to the lead character in Neuromancer, and how certain elements of the plot also seem very similar to Neuromancer.

Based on what I have read so far, though, this is a much better book than Neuromancer.

More once I've finished it.

Update 03-May-2008 - it's a long time since I finished reading this book, but I remember enjoying it a great deal. I really can't say any more about it at this remove, but it's the kind of book that I will probably reread in the not too distant future.

Anyway, despite the inaccuracy, moving to "Books Recently Read".

I really liked it, though of course I can't remember much about it now although it was only late last year I read it (ref: flerdle's plot amnesia problem). Or about Neuromancer to compare. Looking forward to your final thoughts, anyhow.
