I've just been trying to participate in a moderated web chat about ADD. It was a frustrating medium to use, because the moderation was very slow. There was a good five minute lag on the submission of a comment for it to appear, and of course not all of my comments appeared.
One thing it did remind me of is that there is a very high rate (60-70%) of ADD behaviours in children with ADD parents. We have been working very hard to avoid medicalising the birth of our child, and I am similarly keen to avoid medicalising any ADD behaviours. There are a lot of positive things about ADD, and as long as we can teach our child to use those postive features rather than being forced into inappropriste modes of thought then that would be a good thing.
I really want to avoid the labelling of disease. It's a difference, not a disorder.
Golly, I might have to buy some more books on the subject.
