January 19, 2005 Consistency

I have finished the consistency edit of the the first person version of "The Vampire Hunter". I am at the point where I would be comfortable with other people reading it, albeit on the understanding that it is still a work in progress and liable to rapid change.

Something strange that I was worried about was that I might have lost word count in this edit. I know that I will be adding a lot of material when I add the third person narrative sections and the denser plot elements, but I fully expected that doing fact checks and taking out all the little "check this!" annotations would remove more words than I put in, particularly when I was doing some mild cutting to tighten up the writing in certain spots.

But no - my word count on 30th November was 50008; my word count today is 50030. Pretty much a wash. I still want at least half as much again from the content edit.

My other news today in this arena is that I bought some prepunched paper. I was sick of punching holes in the plain paper we use, particularly since we do not have a beefy hole punch. Unfortunately, Office Depot only carry copying paper with holes in it, so we'll see how that works with the inkjet. I also bought some binding rings to replace the treasury tags I've been using up to now, and some card to make simple covers for these ring bound typescripts.

Time to take a break from this story now, though. I will come back in February.
