I did yoga for the first time in six weeks yesterday. It was very good at the time, but I seem to have pushed something a bit too far and now I have a tweaked neck to contend with (I think I went too far on shoulder stand). Learning from the last time that Jen put her shoulder out I have been putting a heat pack on it, which has helped.
Unfortunately I also had a dentist's appointment this morning. I am not fond of going to the dentist, as I have mentioned before, so today's teeth cleaning maintenance session was not something I was looking forward to. Unlike the Super Deluxe cleaning I had before there was no anaesthetic this time, which meant I could give immediate feedback to the hygienist on whether or not a particular part of my mouth was sensitive or not.
The really bad thing is that it stiffened my neck up again because I was so tense. I try really hard to relax when I'm at the dentist, but unfortunately what happens is that while I manage to relax the muscles in my jaw the tension has to go somewhere and today it went straight to my neck. I let the chair lift me back up to a sitting position.
Still, my teeth feel nice and smooth now. I have not yet talked to the dentist about my wisdom teeth, but I am sure that this is in my future. I'm shooting for after March, but before the baby turns up.

You might try icing your neck instead of using heat. It seems sort of counter-intuitive, but (according to my chiropractor) the ice helps relieve whatever swelling is in there and things go back to where they should be more quickly. I've found that it works and, heck, it couldn't hurt at this point, right?? :)
I hope you feel better soon, regardless of what kind of treatment you use!
Thanks for that; I had heard that you should alternate heat and ice. That's what Jen's doctor said when she went in with her tweaked shoulder a few weeks ago. I had forgotten about the ice part. I'll give it a go.
But really I just want my neck to stop hurting.
