Thanksgiving week was excellent, but the end of it was signalled by some rather depressing events.
First of all, my laptop started playing silly buggers again. Not a broken motherboard this time, but it has stopped charging the battery. It is currently a tethered computer since the battery has been exhausted, which rather reduces my enthusiasm for getting the wireless working. I will need to take it into the Apple Store and see if it's new battery time or something else, but this behaviour happened before and it needed a repair then.
Then my sister and her husband went home. Obviously I knew this was going to happen, but it was rather sad all the same. We hadn't seen them since the wedding last year, and they'd only been in town for fve days. Not long enough.
But the real kick in the nads was the sudden appearance of spam on my MC sites. Matt has railed against spammers again on his blog, as have I, but this is the first time as far as we know that anyone has spammed an MC server. Both Orange MC and the Lockisseum were hit.
To describe this as an instance of the tragedy of the commons simply does not convey the gut wrenching injustice of it all - these fuck wits are stealing our time and our resources, just because we're all trying to engage in some civilised conversation. It's just rude, injecting unwanted advertising messages into the middle of the flow of someone else's conversation.
I know what I am going to do to address the issue, but it's intricate and time-consuming. The difficulty is magnified because I can't work on my laptop away from home because of the battery issue.
Bastard spammers.
