Topped 42,000 words this morning. The writing went reasonably smoothly, although I was more tired than I would have liked so I ended up having to have two cups of tea which took more time than I would have liked. In any case, the plot pot hole I mentioned yesterday was negotiated successfully.
I also know how the story is going to end.
Actually, that's not quite accurate - I knew how the story was going to end years ago. I've had the closing scene since I first wrote this story down and the last line for weeks. What I have now is a road to that destination, since the route was more than a little clouded. I'm glad I found a way, because there are bends in the road and if I had tried to go straight I would have fallen off.
The one big difficulty I have is now atmospheric rather than plot-driven, and that is something I will likely tru to fix in editing. The key thing is that I will have the scenes, and I can put them in a different order to improve the build-up later.
But I know how to finish this, and I am quite hopeful that it will last the right number of words too.
