Fragmented observations of a fractured lifestyle.

I've mentioned before that ithaqua, my iBook, will probably be replaced in a year or so when its AppleCare expires.

Well, I've been looking at the Apple laptop options and I'm wondering whether or not I want another Apple.

They are beautifully engineered, and work wonderfully (when they work) but the iBooks lack useful screen resolution, while the PowerBooks are too expensive.

My 12" iBook has a screen resolution of 1024x768, which is not too bad really, but it's too low. Most programs need to run full screen at that resolution. The 14" iBook has a larger screen, but the same screen resolution! So I'm thinking that a 15" PowerBook would be nice, with its 1280x854 screen, but the cheapest model available there is a couple of grand. That's about $500 more than I was hoping to spend, and I'd need to buy a new sleeve too.

Thing is, my original reasons for buying a 12" iBook (ie that it would work better sitting on my lap on the train) have disappeared since I'm not using public transport to get to work any more.

Well, we'll see if Apple's constant bumping of model specs extends to putting a larger resolution screen onto the iBook.
