The saga of the downstairs project is nearly over.
If you recall, the last few posts were about cabling the office and outlying network ports. I got that done OK, and then I had to build a box around the patch panels.
I finally finished that little task last weekend, having engaged in more precise carpentry than ever before. Unfortunately, the precision was largely for naught: the doors are crooked.
Oh well. At least I got to use the router for a real project.
Over the weekend just gone we performed the physical relocation of all the office bits: computers, network gear, and so on. Lots and lots of wires. I was very pleased to find that the connection integrity checks I performed as I was doing the wiring were valid - all of the the network seems to work!
I am still short a significant number of patch cables, though. Inside the network box, it is futility itself for these six foot and longer cables to be used, but that's all I have. I will need to whip out my crimper and make some 18" cables so that the patch panel looks a bit tidier.
That'll probably kill the network, of course. Hmmph.
