Why Should I Listen To You?
Fragmented observations of a fractured lifestyle.
November 04, 2004 Moving Forward

Well, never mind the election, I've written eleven and a half thousand words!

Hurray!

This morning was actually pretty tough, because I was tired and because it was a rewrite of a scene from the first incarnation of this story. It's where you meet most of the characters. It still seems clumsy. I will probably end up editing this pretty savagely, but not now. Right now I want to make sure that everyone says what they need to say to introduce themselves and to move the plot forward.

In my rush to get to this scene which has now stalled I missed out what I thought was an important scene. I am now wondering whether I should go back and write it, or take the opportunity to bring in another character, the classic confused cop. Hmm. Not sure... he'd only be a face at the window, a brief visitation before the plot moves halfway around the world. I'm honestly not sure it's worth it, but it would save me from going backwards and adding to what's already written.

If there is any rule in this game which I am playing by, it is not to go back.

I am so excited that I am almost a quarter of the way through the word count after only four days, though. And I fully expect to knock out as many as 8,000 words over the next couple of days.

In other news, the idea to bring in Mr Random Cop Guy came to me while I was running. I've been running a few times a week for the last three weeks now, and the knee is bothering me less and less. Today it didn't hurt at all. Next job is to get back to running more than three miles at a stretch, but that will be next week - along with my next quarter of the book!
