Came across NaNoWriMo again the other day and it has me thinking once again that this might be a good idea for me.
The point of this is not to produce a good novel, of course. The point is to get me back into the habit of writing.
I've done a bit of test writing to see if I can physically produce enough typing quickly enough for the daily average of ~1650 words to not entirely take over my day, and I can (even if only over a half hour period). I have a story to hand which started as a dream fifteen years ago and which has enough structure to it that I will be able to launch myself into the writing without feeling utterly lost.
I still need to think a bit more about whether this is an entirely practival proposition, in the month when Thanksgiving rolls around especially, but I am inclined to have a go. At the very least I will have more text to work with on a story I've been thinking about on and off for a long time, which can only be a good thing really.
And I would say that the good things outweigh the potential bad things by quite a margin here. I belly ache about not writing, so at some point I need to actually write.
Why not now? Or more to the point, if I can't fit it in now, when can I?

Interesting... I saw ads on blogger.com for NaNoWriMo but didn't pay a whole lot of attention to it until now. (Now that it's Nov. 2 and too late for me to start! HA!)
Ahem.
Anyway, it strikes me that this is the writing equivalent to Portland Fit. Train for a marathon in 6 months, write a novel in 1... What's next?? Hmm... something to ponder.
Anyway, congrats on starting this venture and I hope you'll be sharing at least one or two excerpts from your book...
