Hmm... this blog is turning into my running journal. That wasn't my intention at all.
Actually, the fact is at the moment that about all I'm doing is running and finishing off downstairs projects, so that's about all there is to write about. I have even taken the unprecedented step of swearing off writing and programming in my own time until the office is done, which is to say that I am already doing neither of these things but by officially recognising this situation I can stop feeling bad about it.
We went away for the weekend, to the coast. The temperature here in Portland on Friday was a brutal 100+°F (~40°C), so we went to Astoria where the temperature was... 97°F. Trying to get to sleep on Friday night was hard, as we were lying there thinking "So, we left our air conditioned house... why, exactly?"
Saturday justified the excursion though. The heat dissipated overnight in Astoria, and we had a lovely bike ride around Fort Stevens. The temperature in Portland was even higher than Friday, from what I can gather, so we were glad to be away from that.
On Sunday we wandered around the Astoria Column. I climbed the 164 steps to the top and watched children launching balsa gliders off the platform up there, then we walked along the trail to the Cathedral Tree (a large sitka spruce whose roots form chambers), which was a very pleasant walk.
It was good to get away, but it was nice to come back too.
