July 01, 2004 Making It Up

40 mins/1:24:09 (8½ miles)

That was a long run for a week day.

Once upon a time, when I was cycling a lot (and when I was a good deal younger too, of course) I could jump on the bike and do a fifty mile bike ride without thinking about it before hand. Even a hundred miles was something that only needed a little planning, and then mostly in making sure that I had food with me to keep me going.

I feel like I'm beginning to get to that stage with running. The run this morning (early, before work started) was planned ahead of time but it was a fair way outside of the PFit schedule. The biggest deal was in making sure that I had my waist pack with Gatorade in it. And it went great - it felt really good to run for that long, and to keep running too: no walk breaks this morning! If only I had felt even half as good as I did after almost nine miles this morning during the Helvetia run!

The original plan was to do about 7½ miles, but we took a slight detour to avoid the road and so were running on rather more twisty trails than I was expecting. Again though, I just took it in stride: slow down, keep going.

I've definitely made up the distance I didn't do last Saturday when I had to abort the eight miler.

An excellent outing.
