June 10, 2004 Stress

30 mins/37:18 (3½ miles)

This has not been a good week for me at work. There's just a lot to do, and it all needs to be done by Friday - partly for deadline reasons, partly because I'm on holiday next week painting.

And I really needed to run today.

When I did finally get out the door I was feeling compressed rather than stressed, like the world was pressing in on me and there was nothing I could do to push back. My legs were sore from yoga yesterday (not to mention sleeping badly because of an itchy ankle again), and I had forgotten my hat.

When I got back, all was right with the world - the work I was doing felt that much more manageable, my legs felt softer, and I felt ready to launch myself back into my busy day. I was still wishing that I had remembered my hat, though.

It's amazing what a difference a run can make.

I will be really glad to get to the end of the week, though.
