May 20, 2004 Keeping Up

35 mins/36:09 (3½ miles)

I've mentioned this before, but I have some pretty speedy running buddies.

CK is the ultramarathoner who I run with. She doesn't run as fast as she used to since these days she's far more interested in doing insane distances (eg a 25 mile training run last weekend) than in leaving slowpokes like me in the dust. She qualified for last year's Boston Marathon, though, which requires a fair turn of speed.

Today I ran with CH, who is running her first marathon at Newport, OR in a few weeks. She's eminently capable of qualifying for Boston herself - I asked her if she was running Newport with the intention of qualifying for Boston, and the answer was perfectly calm "If I feel like it on the day" rather than my response which would be more of the "Yeah, right" variety. Newport, I should say, is a marathon from which Boston qualifying is possible - Portland is not.

All this is by way of saying that I had a tough run today.

It wasn't far, but I cycled to work this morning and then spent a lot of energy keeping up with CH, and I'm feeling a bit achy after yoga yesterday, so overall I'm feeling a bit wiped right now.

I do feel good that I do all of this exercise and not die, though.
