6 miles/1:02:10
As I've noted eariler in this week's entries, this was a recovery week. This recovery extended into today's long run, which was a lot shorter than last week.
It went really wel.
I ended up in a group chatting with the group coach, someone who I've only ever really spoken to in passing before, which was interesting. The first half of the run was actually completed rather faster than intended, so we all slowed to a walk for a minute!
One interesting note is that last year we did a hill route for this recovery run. I think it was a good idea not to, because I suspect we lost a lot of people with doing hills so early last year, but I was still hoping for hills. The Portland waterfront is pretty, but I get bored of running it.
It also transpired that I've been running too far for all of the long runs. There's a section coming back along the waterfront where it is usual to follow the well paved path and loop up away from the river. However, following that route means you run a fifth of a mile too far, so in fact my time was dead on a ten minute mile pace.
Speed work starts on Tuesday next week, which will be interesting for me because I've never done any speed work on foot. Last year I did all the intervals I should have done running on the bike because my knee was too sore. Ever so glad this is not the case this year.
