45 mins/59:20 (6 miles)
If Saturday's run was a negative, today's run was its counter. There were so many things wrong with the run: I was on my own, I got lost so that I ended up running farther than intended along unfamiliar trails, I hadn't had a good breakfast, I hadn't had enough water. And yet it was a magical outing, and I feel fantastic now in the afterglow. I feel like I could easily have run for another two or three miles, although I would have needed water and more fuel to live up to that. Indeed, this is the run I wish I'd had on Saturday.
One thing that was very right with today was the conditions. It is a good deal cooler today, so it's possible for the air to cool the skin properly. I also concentrated hard on proper form, on ensuring I used the quick short strides which I have eulogised about already at such length, so that I husbanded my energy more efficiently.
The woods were beautiful, too. There had been a fluff fall so that the ground was grey with seeded fuzz (which was the case yesterday too, but I was too focussed on keeping going to really register it), and the little critters were rattling around in the undergrowth.
But as I say I think my sense of well being now is more due to having a golden run which reminds me why I enjoy running.
Glorious.
