December 30, 2003 Low Resolution

Golly, almost 2004, eh? Time to make some New Year resolutions!

Or maybe not.

I'm sure that some people find making resolutions at the turn of the year to be helpful, but I gave up on it ages ago. To be sure, there are things that I do each new year, like sorting out old paperwork and clearing the decks of stale projects but that is more about getting rid of dead wood than setting new trees.

Another thing is that Jen and I have enough plans already for the year ahead that adding in extra goals would just overload us.

But mainly I dislike resolutions because I dislike the inevitable feelings of guilt when they're not achieved. To a degree, I feel that making (and breaking) resolutions says more about a person's unease with themselves than about their hopes and dreams. It's not a tradition I want any part of.
