July 25, 2003 The Wonder of Toys

I bought an iPod the other week, and so I now have my entire CD collection on a box about the same size as a pack of cards. One of the marvellous things about this is the synchronicity of putting the thing on random track select and seeing some of the juxtapositions that come up - an interview from a Frank Zappa album followed by Weezers; Eminem's public information message followed by the Smiths being miserable. It's really rather splendid.

On the other hand, this has not been a desperately good week for toys since my iBook ithaqua turned up its little toes. It decided that nine months was long enough to operate without problems, and that it would ever so much fun to overheat, throw random noise onto the screen, and then crash. It's gone to the mender's of course, and I am using the old Dell (dagon) in the interim. Apart from some initial delight that dagon started up so readily despite being unused since I got ithaqua (and the batteries were still mostly charged too!) I've been remembering rather rapidly exactly why dagon needed to be replaced...
