Why Should I Listen To You?
Fragmented observations of a fractured lifestyle.
January 09, 2003 Running for Dummies

The "for Dummies" books (and the "Idiot's Guides") are offensively named, but are also written in a very accessible way which presents some complex material in an easy to understand manner. Running for Dummies was co-authored by Florence Griffith-Joyner ("Flo Jo") who died shortly before its publication in 1998.

My reason for reading the book was that I was struggling with a nagging a persistent injury and I felt that I needed some advice on how to control it. The information I got on that, on general running form, and on specific techniques like running down hill, have been invaluable. There's also a lot of good ideas on training plans, dressing for the conditions, buying shoes, and all sorts of good stuff.

An excellent reference. It probably won't be my last running book, but it has given me a flying start on running well.

[edit 22-Apr-2003: I've stopped reading this book now, particularly since I received my Portland Fit schedule. It's still a good book, and I am sure that I will refer to it often.]
